Moroccan themed buffet from summer 2010

What a blast from the past!  While looking through some old pictures from a few years ago, we came across some great shots of a themed buffet we created for a client's buffet birthday party.  This event featured a Moroccan themed buffet with traditional lamb on a spit.

The copper chaffing dish is one of our favourites for bringing a different look to a standard buffet table

The menu featured very traditional dishes and accompaniments

Backyard summer party with brand new canapes for 2012

Absolutely perfect weather last night for a backyard summer party!  Select Service debuted many of our brand new canapes for summer 2012 - lots of chilled options that are perfect for the heat of summer.  This outdoor reception was for about 60 guests, and featuring passed canapes in place of a formal seated dinner. Guests brought traditional German cakes and desserts for later in the evening, and Select served an Asian-inspired chicken and rice noodle soup at the end of the night.

The patio around the pool was dotted with high bar tables for guests to have a place to set down their drinks.  We love the stretch black covers for high bar tables, especially when paired with a more traditional linen topper.  We twisted the black covers for a really interested look to the table.

The doors leading out to the patio.  Even though it was a perfect night, we ALWAYS recommend renting tents just in case.  We unfortunately cannot control the weather, and it's better safe than sorry!

We added tiny spoons to help guests get every last bit of the panna cotta

Remember our smoked salmon lollipops from Christmas?  Everyone loves food on a stick, so we've introduced a chive, bacon, and gorgonzola lollipop.

These were a big hit - Szechwan pork and apple skewers with a savoury donut.  We made the itty bitty donuts from scratch, and served them slightly warm.

A more traditional canape - gingered cream cheese grapes rolled in slivered almonds.  Chef Kelvin presented them "on the vine"

Looks like dessert, but these are actually savoury!  Tiny little beet meringues with goat cheese filling, they melt in your mouth, but just the right amount of sweet and tangy

June wedding in the park at Victoria Park Pavilion

Congratulations Justine and Julian!  On Saturday June 16, 2012, they tied the knot in beautiful Victoria Park in Kitchener, and held their reception at Victoria Park Pavilion.  Their 130 guests enjoyed sipping lemonade and iced tea in the park, and then moved inside for a traditional plated dinner and dancing into the wee hours of the morning.

The favours at each place setting were miniature jars of clover honey, customized with their wedding date

The honey tied in perfectly with their light and refreshing colour scheme

Adorable napkins rings, a perfect DIY project using tissue paper and wire

When Select's team arrived, the tables were covered and all napkins and centrepiece items were already set - it was great working with the team from Special Events & Flowers on this wedding, they did a fantastic job!

The arch above the main entrance was done by Special Events & Flowers, as were all of the table linens, flowers, napkins, and decor

Such a nice touch to include a menu at the bar - it ties in with your colours and theme, and lets guests know what they can order.  The couple chose three signature cocktails for the night - a strawberry rhubarb fizz, classic Caesar, and Old Fashioned cocktail.

Everyone loves a little sweet!  Jelly beans in coordinating colours sat at the bar for guests to enjoy.

The finished table settings, after Select's team had unwrapped and placed all of the rental items.

Love the bee theme!

One menu card on each table saves on printing costs, but lets your guests see what's coming next

Now that's a DJ!  Real records and a turntable, along with the standard laptop.

This DJ was amazing, and when we asked him for a card to share him with our other brides, he said he was just a friend doing the DJing as a gift to the couple.

The chairs are making their way back inside for the reception - no need to rent two sets of chairs, we'll move everything where it needs to be.

Select's kitchen team is busy plating salads for the first course - we love the bouquet salad!

During the entire day, the couple's photography team was snapping pro pictures - the team from Karolina Kuras Photgraphy were fantastic!

Please forgive the blur, things get busy around dinner time!  The main course entree plate - medallion of beef tenderloin with shrimp, roasted baby potatoes, asparagus spears, and pureed carrot.

Vegetarians don't get stuck with a ho-hum stir fry from Select - zucchini boats stuffed with spicy black bean and cheese, with a tangy tomato white wine sauce.

We love desserts!  A not-too-sweet lemon tart with blueberries and raspberry coulis

After dinner, dancing started, and we providing fuel for the party-fire, with an artful arrangement of fresh fruit, coffee and tea, chicken wings with sauces, and gourmet pizza.
